Last year, at the end of our Spain & Portugal tour, we spent a whirlwind couple of days in and around Lisbon, excited by everything we found and did. Recognizing that we only experienced a fraction of what the city had to offer, we decided then and there that Lisbon warranted a return visit.
So return we have…at least three of the four of us. This trip, “Mom“, Rob and I have been joined by a fourth thirsty traveller, Noviciate Nancy, who is experiencing the land of Prince Henry the Navigator for the first time under our savvy guidance. (If one prior 3-day visit is sufficient enough to crown us masters of Lisbonia!)
It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for this date to arrive. Our first deposit for this trip was made way back in mid-August of 2024. We’ve even managed to squeeze in two other amazing adventures – Bordeaux and Eastern Europe – since making the Portuguese commitment. And yet, at this writing, MDR*, we’re STILL waiting to set foot on the western edge of the Iberian peninsula. “Patience, grasshopper.”
We have done extensive YouTube research for this trip over the past year. The number of videos being churned out by “influencers” is overwhelming. They cover both Lisbon and Porto; not-to-be-missed food and wines; sites to see and to skip; and so much more. Rob has been principally interested in those videos devoted to the specialty foods of Portugal. The varieties of seafood have been of particular interest to him, having fallen in love with grilled sardines so many years ago when he holidayed in the Algarve (southern coastal Portugal) with Donna and the then-Bushes.
